Get ready for the biggest clash in Hyundai A-League history when Western Sydney Wanderers take on Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on 8 of October!
After four seasons of sold out Sydney Derbies at Pirtek Stadium and Sydney Football Stadium, this will be the first ever Sydney Derby to be played at ANZ Stadium with its 83,500 capacity.
Being held in Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season, the match is set to smash all records in the league’s 12-year history.
Records will fall
The record for attendance for an A-League match was 55,436 set 10 years ago in the 2006/07 Grand Final at Etihad Stadium between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory.
To date, the biggest derby attendance sits with our southern neighbours for the Melbourne Derby in the 2014/15 Semi-Final with a crowd of 50,873.
With all eyes on the opening Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League, all records could tumble when the biggest rivalry in Australian football heats up for its 13th edition.
Derby History
The Wanderers are looking for redemption and will be out in force on and off the pitch with huge numbers of Wanderers fans set to flood into ANZ Stadium to prove once again that Sydney really is Red & Black.
The Wanderers stated their dominance in their first two seasons in the league, however the recent hotly contested battles have only been separated by a single goal with two draws.
A new venue and a huge crowd in Red & Black will be the catalyst for the Wanderers to assert their dominance following their strong showing the 2015/16 season where they returned to the top of the table, appearing in the Club’s third Grand Final in four seasons as well as returning to the AFC Champions League for the third time.
