Shinji was welcomed by 10 very passionate Wanderers members who wanted to provide him with the warm welcome he deserves.

The 33 year old was then met with all the media who were in attendance for a short press conference. Arriving on a flight from Tokyo, Japan Shinji then made his way to the training ground to meet all of his new team mates.

“It-s very exciting to be here,” Ono said. “I want to show the people what I can do.”

When asked about his fitness and whether he though t he was ready to take to the pitch in round one, the answer was one that all supporters would be happy to hear.

“I think so, I need to speak with my boss (Coach Tony Popovic) but I am here to play and I feel good.

“When I was 18 years old I remember I played against Tony.

Although admitting that he doesn-t know too much about the A-League the former Japanese international has heard about the arrival of other big names and is looking forward to coming up against them.

“I know already about Del Piero and him being here, I am excited to play against Sydney FC, round three it is.”

He also received some advice from former Hyundai A-League player and team mate Alex Brosque.

“He give me information about Sydney. He told me it is a very nice city so hopefully I have a good time here.”
