Speakers confirmed for Gold Star Lunch

The special guest speakers have been confirmed for this year’s Gold Star Luncheon at Bankwest Stadium.

Now an annual event, the Gold Star Lunch is set to celebrate the Wanderers’ first fixture at Bankwest Stadium against storied English football club Leeds United on Saturday 20 July. 

The event on Thursday 18 July will see two panels take place as well as a number of live auctions for exclusive experiences.

Markus Babbel – Head Coach, Western Sydney Wanderers FC
Head coach of the Western Sydney Wanderers Hyundai A-League team, Babbel joined the Red & Black last season. The former German International, Bayern Munich and Liverpool defender had come to the club with a rich coaching pedigree following successful spells at FC Luzern in Switzerland and Germany with Hertha Berlin, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.

Mark Bosnich – Presenter, FOX SPORTS
Born and raised in Western Sydney, Bosnich is arguably one of the finest footballers Australia has ever produced. The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa goalkeeper now spends his time as an experienced media commentator and analyst for FOX SPORTS.

Paul Okon – Presenter, FOX SPORTS
A player-turned coach, Okon has been part of Australia’s football scene for the last three decades. A career that has spanned the globe, Okon has played in Italy, England, Belgium and Cyprus before turning his attention to coaching at Australian youth levels and more recently, the Central Coast Mariners.

Thomas Sorensen – Retired footballer
A former Danish International, Sorensen finished up his career at Hyundai A-League outfit Melbourne City back in 2017. An extensive career has seen Sorensen between the sticks at clubs such as Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke City in the English Premier League.

Georgia Yeoman-Dale – Analyst, FOX SPORTS
A member of the Western Sydney Wanderers squad, Yeoman-Dale has been a constant threat in the Westfield W-League and has had experience playing for clubs such as Canberra United, Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC. A veteran of the game, Yeoman-Dale has more recently been part of OPTUS Sports’ coverage of this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and is a regular football analyst on FOX SPORTS.

Dean Heffernan – Head coach, Western Sydney Wanderers FC
Head coach of the Wanderers Westfield W-League team, Heffernan is a rising star in the coaching ranks and has mustered plenty of experience since his retirement in 2014. Heffernan has just finished up his role as the head coach of the Wanderers U20s team in the NPL 2 and will now embark on his first season coaching in the Westfield W-League.

Catherine Cannuli – Assistant coach, Western Sydney Wanderers FC
A Wanderers legend in her own right, Cannuli has epitomised what it means to be a Wanderer. The former Matilda was part of the Wanderers’ inaugural Westfield W-League side in 2012 and is the club’s all-time women’s leading goal scorer. An ambassador for the club, Cannuli is also part of the Wanderers Westfield W-League coaching line-up this season.
