Western Sydney Wanderers FC are proud to announce the signing of midfielder Steven Ugarkovic until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Western Sydney local, born in Baulkham Hills, comes to the Red & Black after a six-season long stint at Newcastle Jets where the 26-year-old amassed 135 appearances and scored nine goals in the domestic competition.

An engine in the midfield, Ugarkovic is set to bolster the Wanderers midfield stocks in their push to the Finals Series.

Steven Ugarkovic said he was honoured to represent the club where he grew up.

“It’s an amazing feeling to come back and play where I grew up, to be playing every week now in front of my family is an honour,” said Ugarkovic.

“I worked under Carl (head coach Carl Robinson) for a short time, but he took my game to the next level and I really look forward to working under him again. He’s that type of coach that can get the best out of me.

“We need to make Finals, that’s the number one goal here and I’m going to come in and do as much as I can for the team to make Finals and play in front of the fans.

“There’s a massive fanbase here for at Wanderers that I’m excited to get in front of and start playing.”

Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Carl Robinson said he was delighted to work with Steve again.

“Steve is a top character, he’s a winner and he brings a fantastic hard-working mentality to our squad,” said Robinson.

“I didn’t realise how talented Steve was as a player and after getting to know him as a person while working at Newcastle, he is one of the top midfielders in the country.

“He’s a Western Sydney boy as well and he understands the importance of what it means to represent the region, club, and our passionate members and fans.”
