Wanderers edge past Bonnyrigg White Eagles

The Western Sydney Wanderers ultimately proved too strong for Bonnyrigg White Eagles in their 2-1 win in the FFA Cup Round of 16 at Marconi Stadium.

Wanderers coach Markus Babbel had warned against complacency following the side’s Round of 32 scare against Hellenic AC, and when new German recruit Alexander Baumjohann opened his account for the club early on the Red and Black looked on course for the final eight.

But the recently relegated NPL NSW outfit dared to dream when Tynan Diaz brought the scores level with a sensational free kick early in the second half.

It was not to be for the White Eagles though, as a captain’s goal from Wanderers’ centre half Brendan Hamill steered the Red and Black into the quarter finals.
