The Western Sydney Wanderers have surrendered top spot in the Foxtel National Youth league after going down 2-0 to the Newcastle Jets at Popondetta Park on Sunday night.

Second half goals to Leroy Jennings and Kristian Brymora secured the win for the traveling side, who now leapfrog the Wanderers into first place in Conference B.

The opening half was a tepid affair, with both sides playing a patient game, content to maintain possession.

Chances on goal were few and far between, though the Wanderers were probing well with Mario Shabow, Tariq Maia and Liam Youlley all seeing plenty of the ball.

After a goalless first half, it was the Newcastle Jets who would break the deadlock just five minutes after the restart, Leroy Jennings heading home Ma Lei Lei’s cross from the left.

The Wanderers continued to play their possession brand of football but the Jets found a second goal via route one, as Kristian Brymora latched onto a long ball before poking past Nick Suman.

The Red & Black poured forward as they looked to claw their way back into the game, Mario Shabow and Abraham Majok both coming close only to be denied by the woodwork.

The Jets however held firm to notch up their second win over the Wanderers this season following their 4-3 victory in the opening round.

The Wanderers will look to bounce back after the Christmas break when they take on Sydney FC at Lambert Park on 2 January.
