The Western Sydney Wanderers have drawn 1-1 with Melbourne Victory on Friday night at Lakeside Stadium.

An early goal by Erica Halloway was canceled out by Victory’s Natasha Dowie with both teams sharing the points and staying equal on the ladder.

Jada Whyman was called into action early making a double save to deny Victory with the opener.

Halloway worked her way through Victory’s defence and played in a smart ball to Rachel Lowe, but the Young Matilda was crowded out of the box.

Alix Roberts looked to have found the opener with her bullet of a cross that forced goalkeeper Casey Dumont to push out the shot.

The match was temporarily paused as both teams came off the field due to a  lightning storm.

Play resumed thirty minutes later with the Wanderers coming out firing.

The Red & Black found the opener through Halloway who from a set piece tucked it into the bottom corner.

The Victory canceled out the Wanderers lead after Laura Spiranovic’s strike was blocked and fell to Dowie who smashed home the equaliser for the home side.

The Red & Black pushed to get the win with a number of chances rolling in during the final minutes of the match.

Marlous Pieete sent Dumont diving to make a low save after a powerful strike.

Substitute Rosie Sutton followed up with a shot on the rebound and a header that went wide minutes later.

Despite a number of chances, the Wanderers were unable to break the deadlock and will now switch their focus to next Friday’s match against Perth Glory at Marconi Stadium.
