Ellie Carpenter and Nicholas Suman have taken home the silverware at NewsLocal’s Junior Sports Star Awards.

Ellie Carpenter won the major award and was named NewsLocal’s Junior Sports Star whilst Nicholas Suman won the Young Sporting Spirit Award for the Rouse Hill Times.

Carpenter signed for the Wanderers Westfield W-League squad in 2015/16 and began the season in such a strong fashion that she called up to the Matildas training camp at the end of Round 4.

Carpenter impressed during every minute of her rookie season and was later selected in the national team squad for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Japan.

This is where she became the first ever millennial to represent the Matildas when she was selected to play in the qualifier against Vietnam.

After a phenomenal 12 months where she even became Australia’s youngest Olympian at Rio, she re-signed with the Wanderers for the 2016/17 Westfield W-League squad and backed it up with another exceptional season.

Nicholas Suman

Suman began his football journey at Colo Cougars before moving to Nepean FC.

The goalkeeper played his club football for Sydney United and FNSW Institute before joining the Wanderers at the start of the 2015/16 Foxtel National Youth League season.

He made his debut in Round 15 of that season at the age of 15.

More recently, Suman was on the bench in the Wanderers Asian Champions League match against Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday night.
