The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers will take on Mt Druitt Town Rangers in a pre-season fixture on Thursday 30 July.

While this will be the first ever meeting on the pitch between the neighbours, Popondetta Park last season hosted a Wanderers home fixture in the Foxtel National Youth League.

Kick-off will be at 7:30pm at Popondetta Park, Emerton as the Red & Black take on the PS4 NPL 2 NSW team in preparation for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said this match is another opportunity to engage with the local grassroots community.

“It’s important to play in venues around the Western Sydney region, especially recognising clubs who have supported us consistently in the community,” said Tsatsimas.

“Mt Druitt Town Rangers have provided a great deal of support for our Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and Foxtel National Youth League match days and have been featured as a Hyundai Goals for Grassroots club.

“This is a great opportunity to engage further with Mt Druitt and the Town Rangers as we prepare for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.”

Mt Druitt Town Rangers administrator Scott Payer said it is great recognition for the club to host the Wanderers.

“It will be a historic day in the history of Mt Druitt to have the Champions of Asia at our field,” said Payer.

“We’ve been behind the Wanderers since the outset: attending the initial community forums, supporting everything the club has done and having a lot of Foundation Members here.

“The excitement of the kids when we had the youth team play at Popondetta last season was fantastic, I can’t begin to imagine what it’s going to be like when they see the A-League team.”
