Wanderers host Asian Community Cup this weekend

Western Sydney’s best Asian community football talent will be showcased in the inaugural Western Sydney Wanderers Asian Community Cup to be held over November and December at Marconi Club at Bossley Park.

16 Open Mens teams representing Asian Football Confederation countries will compete to become the champions with Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lebanon, Nepal, NSW Police representing Australia, Oman, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Vietnam all represented.
 
The teams will play in four knockout pools on Saturday November 8, 2014 at Marconi Fields followed by quarter and semi-finals culminating in a Grand Final at Marconi Stadium on Saturday 20 December.
 
The event is organised by the Western Sydney Wanderers FC with support from the Local Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup 2015, Club Marconi and Red Elephant Projects.
 
CEO Western Sydney Wanderers FC John Tsatsimas was proud to be involved.
 
“As the newly crowned champions of Asia, the Western Sydney Wanderers are proud to present the inaugural Asian Community Cup in partnership with the AFC Asian Cup 2015,” he said.
 
“Western Sydney is proud of its diverse communities and this tournament will showcase the rich Asian football cultures ahead of the Asian Cup in January.”
 
Michael Brown, CEO of the Local Organising Committee of the AFC Asian Cup 2015 said: “With less than three months to go until the Asian Cup, the Western Sydney Asian Community Cup is a wonderful event to bring the communities together in celebration,”
 
“We look forward to a high standard of football and may the best team win.” Mr Brown added.
 
The Opening day on Saturday November 8 will also feature kids activities including:

  • NRMA Ball Amnesty – First 200 kids at 10am will receive a new NRMA/Wanderers football
  • NRMA Skill Tester
  • Penalty shootout
