The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have today announced the signing of Japanese attacker Jumpei Kusukami.
With over 100 appearances in the J1 League, Kusukami began his career at Kawasaki Frontale in 2009 before spending the past three seasons at Cerezo Osaka.
Playing predominantly as an attacking midfielder, the 28-year-old is just as competent on either wing and will bring an attacking flair to the Wanderers.
Kusukami qualifies as the Club’s Asian visa player for the AFC Champions League and his own experience in the competition will be incredibly valuable as the Wanderers prepares for their third campaign in Asia.
While familiar with the 2014 Asian Champions, Kusukami said a conversation with Shinji Ono told him even more about the Wanderers.
“It’s my honour to join the Western Sydney Wanderers, one of the best clubs in Asian football. It’s a huge opportunity for me, so I would like to give my best to the Wanderers,” said Kusukami.
“I was told that fans of Wanderers are the best and most enthusiastic in the world by my idol, Shinji Ono. I look forward to this new adventure and to play in front of the fans.
“I believe I can help the Wanderers win titles and play AFC Champions League again.”
Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas was pleased with the signing.
“We’re excited to bring Kusukami to the Hyundai A-League and we look forward to seeing him in Red & Black,” said Tsatsimas.
“Kusukami has played a lot of matches in one of the top leagues in Asia, he has experience in the Champions League and the versatility to play in a number of positions in the front third.”
