The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have today announced the signing of Spanish central defender Aritz Borda on a two year deal.

Born in Lasarte-Oria, in the northeast of Spain, the 31-year-old defender has had a global career that has spanned both Asia and Europe.

Borda joins the Wanderers from Spanish outfit Deportivo Alavés, having helped the side secure promotion to La Liga after topping the Segunda division in 2015/16.

Borda is a welcome addition to the Wanderers defence for the upcoming season, bringing a wealth of experience and maturity.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said Aritz would be a strong presence in the team’s defensive unit.

“From what our coaching staff have seen of Aritz they are very confident he will be a formidable presence in our backline this season,” said Tsatsimas.

“He has played in Asia previously and has had good experience in European leagues so we expect he will fit into our structure well.”

Borda is looking forward to joining the squad and representing the Wanderers.

“I am super excited to join the Wanderers for the next two seasons.

“This will be a new adventure for me and I’m sure I will enjoy it. I am coming to give my best for the team and help them with the Championship” said Borda.
