Wanderers skipper wary after drawing Blacktown

Wanderers skipper Robbie Cornthwaite knows how dangerous Blacktown City are after drawing them in the Westfield FFA Cup quarter finals.

The Western Sydney Wanderers skipper opened the scoring in a comfortable 4-0 win against Bentleigh Greens to secure their passage to the last eight.

Rather than another Hyundai A-League side, they’ll meet close neighbours Blacktown City in the quarter-finals.

“It’s the beauty of the Cup – you get who you get,” Cornthwaite told Fox Sports shortly after the draw was made.

“You can only beat the opposition you’re put up against.

“We’ve played them already in pre-season – they played some good football and gave us a good run.

“Obviously they’re another Western Sydney side, so it’s going to make for an interesting match,” he said.

The game will take place on the artificial turf at Blacktown’s Lily Homes Stadium which will present some footwear challenges for the visitors.

“I don’t think many of the boys will have astroturf boots,” said Cornthwaite.

“We might have to make a quick call to Nike,” he laughed.

Wanderers head back to the Gold Coast for another pre-season camp ahead of this last eight clash.
