The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers have celebrated their first home victory of the season after defeating the Newcastle Jets 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Wanderers youth products grabbed both goals, with Lachlan Scott netting his first Hyundai A-League goal in the first half, before Jausha Sotirio sealed the result in the second half.

Both sides came out firing in the opening minutes with the Wanderers enjoying the bulk of the possession and creating a number of good chances.

Jaushua Sotirio nearly found an early opening for the Wanderers, smashing a ball that was unluckily deflected away to safety.

Mitch Nichols then tried his luck from distance, forcing Jack Duncan into a fumbling save.

The Wanderers found the breakthrough minutes from the break through Scott, after a Kearyn Baccus assist paved the way for the 19-year-old to smash the ball home.

It was Scott’s first ever Hyundai A-League goal and his third at Campbelltown Stadium, following his double on debut in the Westfield FFA Cup earlier this year.

The Wanderers carried their momentum into the second half and would soon double their advantage through Sotirio.

Following a corner, Dimas cut the ball back to the winger who thrashed it through a sea of bodies and into the bottom left corner.

The goal sealed what was the Red & Black’s first home win of the season, as the Wanderers now leap-frog the Jets into 7th on the table.

Tony Popovic’s men will look to remain in the winners circle when they travel to face Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium next Saturday.
