The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers will continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Melbourne City tonight at McEwen Reserve in Shepparton in regional Victoria.

The match comes just two days after the Wanderers progressed to the Westfield FFA Cup Semi Finals after a penalty shootout win over Blacktown City on Wednesday night.

A number of players involved in that match will be rested, as Tony Popovic looks to rotate his squad ahead of the start of the Hyundai A-League season in two weeks.

The match against City will be the first time the two sides have met since the Wanderers’ 3-1 win in Round 24 of last season’s Hyundai A-League.

Brendon Santalab was the hero in that match, netting his first hat-trick for the Wanderers in a come-from-behind win at Spotless Stadium.

City will host the Wanderers in their first meeting of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season in Round 6 at AAMI Park.

The friendly in Shepparton comes just two weeks before the Wanderers kick-off their Hyundai A-League season against Perth Glory on Sunday 8 October at Spotless Stadium.
