Western Sydney Wanderers goalkeeper Jada Whyman is set to miss a large chunk of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season after undergoing surgery this week.
The promising shot-stopper revealed the news on Twitter, confirming she went under the knife to fix a patella tendon injury.
Whyman had been ‘managing’ the issue for the last couple of seasons but decided the time was right to try and fix the problem permanently.
The 20-year-old’s injury woes was the main factor behind coach Dean Heffernan recruiting American youth international Abby Smith ahead of the new season.
After opening the campaign with a 2-1 win over Adelaide United last Thursday, the Wanderers host Newcastle Jets on Friday afternoon at Bankwest Stadium.
The match is part of a double-header with the Hyundai A-League, with the Wanderers taking on league-leaders Melbourne City.
2 and a half years I’ve had a slight tear in my patella tendon. In this time period, medical staff have helped me manage it. But it was time to take a new approach to it. Surgery went well today. Road to recovery starts now 👊 pic.twitter.com/T6CU1et3ZA
