Biography
Born in Adelaide, Jacob started his career at National Premier Leagues club Modbury Jets before joining the South Australian Sports Institute in 2010.
After winning a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in 2011, Melling signed his first professional contract with Adelaide United and made his debut in a 3-1 win over Melbourne Heart.
The defensive midfielder featured heavily for the Australian U17 side during the time of his debut season, recording 11 appearances for the Joeys and a further eight appearances for the Reds before moving to NPL club Para Hills Knights.
Melling joined Melbourne City in May 2014 and went on to feature 36 times for the club, scoring his first and only professional goal to date against the Wanderers in a 2-1 win over the Red & Black in Round 15 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.
The defensive midfielder joined the Wanderers on Friday 12 August 2016, signing a two-year deal. He made his Red & Black debut against Central Coast Mariners in Round 4 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.
