A Barcelona native, Riera developed at the famed FC Barcelona La Masia Academy before playing in Barcelona C and B teams as well as a single match for the senior team in the Copa Del Rey in 2003. After departing Barcelona Riera has played in the La Liga and Segunda teams including Deportivo de La Coruña, Celta de Vigo, Osasuna as well as a season with Wigan Athletic in English Championship. A proven goalscorer noted for his finishing, aerial ability, and strong physical presence, Riera joined the Wanderers as a marquee player in July 2017. Oriol Riera made his debut for the club in their clash against English Heavyweights Arsenal FC and went on to score his first goal in the club's Round of 32 clash against Wellington Phoenix. A very successful first season outside of Europe saw Oriol Riera crowned the Wanderers golden boot winner at the end of 2017/18, smashing the previous record for most goals scored in a season by a Wanderer across all competitions. Riera also took out the Wanderers Hyundai A-League Player of the Year award and Rod Allen Media Award at Wanderers Medal 2018, summing up what was a fantastic season for the Spaniard.
