Biography
Towering, composed, and fiercely competitive, Phillip Cancar is a defender who embodies the spirit of resilience and ambition.
Leaving Australia at just 16, Cancar took a bold leap to Europe, honing his craft in Croatia with Lokomotiva Zagreb and Hrvatski Dragovoljac. In 2020, he returned home to Western Sydney, joining the Wanderers Academy and quickly progressing into the A-Leagues set-up.
During the 2021/22 season, Cancar made 12 A-League appearances for the Red & Black, impressing with his strong defensive instincts and maturity beyond his years. His performances earned him a move to Scotland with Livingston FC, where he gained valuable European experience before returning to the A-Leagues with the Newcastle Jets.
At Newcastle, Cancar cemented himself as a regular starter, racking up 43 appearances and proving to be a reliable presence at the back. Now back in Red & Black, Cancar brings international experience, determination, and a strong connection to the club where his professional journey truly began.
